Vietnamese electric car company's big entry in India, plant to be inaugurated on July 31

Vietnam's electric car company VinFast is ready to begin its Indian operations. The firm is going to open its first factory on July 31, 2025. The factory has been constructed at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu, where Vinfast will begin making its two battery-powered SUV models VF6 and VF7. Both these cars are to be introduced in India next month.

Vinfast will be investing Rs 4,000 crore in total on this project over the next five years. The company plans to produce about 1.5 lakh vehicles annually. The facility is located across 400 acres in SIPCOT Industrial Park. Production began in April 2024 and has now been completed within a period of about a year. This plant is expected to provide direct and indirect employment to 3,000 to 3,500 people. Recently, the company has also recruited the first team of 200 local professionals.

This plant of Vinfast will manufacture vehicles not only for Indian customers but also for international markets like South Asia, Middle East and Africa. This means that India is going to be not only a sales center but also a manufacturing hub of Vinfast.

Vinfast is rapidly expanding its network in India. The company plans to start 32 dealerships in 27 cities across the country in the initial phase. Pre-booking for VF6 and VF7 has also started in India. And customers can book these vehicles by paying a token amount of just Rs 21,000.

The VF6 will compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric. While the VF7 will compete with popular electric SUVs like BYD Atto 3, Tata Harrier EV in the Indian market.

The VinFast VF6 is a compact electric SUV, which is around 4.3 meters in length. And it will be offered as a family car. It will have many high-tech features. Like Level 2 ADAS, large touchscreen infotainment system, head-up display, signature LED lighting, panoramic glass roof and more.

On the other hand, the VinFast VF7 will be a more premium and larger SUV, with a length of more than 4.5 meters. This vehicle will be equipped with features like strong looks, great cabin space, premium interior material, ADAS Level 2, signature lights and panoramic roof.
