Ransomware attacks increased by 55% in India, hackers' first eye was on America

Ransomware attacks in India have increased by 55 percent in a year. Last year, there were 98 ransomware attacks in India and most of the attacks took place in the months of May and October. This information has been received from the recently released 'Ransomware Trends 2024: Insights for Global Cybersecurity Readiness'. This report has been released by CyberPeace, which is a cyber security agency.
CyberPeace continuously monitored 166 threat actor groups at a competitive advantage using advanced OSINT and collected data from 658 servers/underground resources. According to the report, ransomware groups using these underground resources carried out 5,233 attacks in 153 countries. The US topped the list of most targeted countries, followed by Canada, and the UK-Germany among others.
The report has demonstrated that "KillSec" was the biggest threat, whereas "LockBit3" turned out to be the second biggest threat. Other groups, including Ransomhub, Darkvault, and Clop, had a medium level of activity.
