Supreme Court grants relief to Mukhtar Ansari's son and prohibits arrests for code of conduct violations

Omar Ansari, the son of Bahubali Mukhtar Ansari, was granted relief from arrest by the Supreme Court on Tuesday. For alleged violations of the election code of conduct during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Umar Ansari was the subject of a case. A notice regarding a petition contesting the Allahabad High Court's ruling was sent to the Uttar Pradesh government by a bench consisting of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and PK Mishra.

Senior attorney Kapil Sibal made an appearance in court on Omar Ansari's behalf. Kapil Sibal stated during the hearing that the primary accused in the case of breaking the election code of conduct has been granted bail regularly. Omar Ansari's request for anticipatory bail was denied by the Allahabad High Court in December of last year. The High Court had said that looking at the facts and circumstances, it seems that a crime has been committed. However, now overturning the decision of the High Court, the Supreme Court has stopped the arrest of Mukhtar Ansari's son Omar Ansari.

On March 4, 2022, the police registered an FIR against Mukhtar Ansari's two sons Abbas Ansari and Umar Ansari along with 150 unknown people at Kotwali police station in Mau district. It is alleged that on March 3, 2022, Abbas Ansari, Omar Ansari and Mansoor Ahmed Ansari addressed a public gathering at Paharpura Ground. During this time, the local administration was asked to settle the accounts. This was considered a violation of the election code of conduct.
