New Zealand has yet another major drawback in the ongoing T20 series against South Africa. The batsman, Bevon Jacobs, will not be able to play the second T20 match at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Tuesday. According to New Zealand Cricket, Katene Clarke has been included in the Blackcaps' squad in place of Jacobs.

According to a statement from NZC, Jacobs fell on his left knee while fielding during the first T20I, forcing him off the field. Scans confirmed a bone bruise. His return to the field will be determined only after further examination.

Kayton Clarke was scheduled to join the squad for the fourth and fifth T20Is with Dane Cleaver, Jaden Lennox, and Tom Latham, but he has been brought in ahead of time as Jacobs has suffered an injury. Ish Sodhi, who has been ruled out of the entire series, has suffered a broken thumb after bowling practice at Bay Oval, which will keep him out of play for at least four weeks. NZC clarified that no replacement player will be called up to replace Sodhi, as Lockie Ferguson is scheduled to join the team for the second and third matches. The remaining matches of this five-match T20 series will be played in Hamilton on March 17, Eden Park (Auckland) on March 20, Wellington on March 22, and Christchurch on March 25.
