Rohit Sharma's team got 125 crores for winning the World Cup, then the 1983 champion team also demanded it

After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awarded Rs 125 crore in prize money to the T20 World Cup winning squad, a former member of the 1983 World Cup winning team believes the board should also announce a cash reward for Kapil Dev's champion side.

In the 1983 World Cup final, India upset two-time champion West Indies by 43 runs, led by Kapil Dev. India then successfully defended the tiny mark with excellent bowling, amassing 183 runs in 60 overs. Madan Lal and Mohinder Amarnath each got three wickets as they bowled out the West Indies for 140 runs.

After that victory, the Indian team emerged as a new force in world cricket. The senior cricketer says that the 1983 World Cup team was not given any reward because the BCCI said that they did not have the money, but now that the board has the money, it can announce a cash reward.

In a conversation with IANS, on the condition of anonymity, this former cricketer said, "Rs 125 crore is a huge amount. We were not given any such reward then, because the board said that it did not have the money. Now they can give it, what is stopping them? Only a few players of that team are working, the rest are struggling. The BCCI should think about this."
