South Africa is touring India at the moment and, having already challenged Team India in the Tests with a resounding series victory, is challenging in the ODIs too. In the Test series, South Africa thrashed Team India 2-0. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli thereafter rejoined Team India. Both of them wreaked havoc in the Ranchi ODI and led Team India to a thumping victory. In the four innings of the Test series, the Indian team never crossed the 200 mark except once. Unlimited overs had commenced; yet, runs were not easy to come by for the Indian batsmen. But no sooner did the limited-overs cricket begin and Rohit and Virat rejoin the team than Team India started amassing runs.

In the Ranchi ODI, Virat Kohli scored 135 runs, while Rohit Sharma scored 57. Following this innings, news is rapidly going viral on social media, claiming that Gautam Gambhir wants Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to return to the Test team. It's worth noting that both veterans retired from Test cricket during IPL 2025. The news circulating on social media is merely a rumor, as Gautam Gambhir has not officially made any such statement or posted anything about it.

Rohit Sharma made his Test debut in 2013. He struggled to cement his place in the team as a middle-order batsman. In 2019, he was given the responsibility of opening the innings. After that, it felt as if a new player was born in Test cricket. With the change of position, Rohit Sharma began disrupting bowlers' line and length. In 2021 and 2023, he played a key role in India's WTC final. However, after that, Rohit Sharma began struggling for runs in Test cricket.

He retired after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024-25. Rohit scored 4,301 runs in 116 innings of 67 Tests. Rohit Sharma has 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries to his name in Tests. Virat Kohli's statistics are even better than Rohit Sharma. Kohli made his Test debut in 2011 and played 123 matches till 2025. Kohli has 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries to his name in 210 innings. He has also scored 7 double centuries. Kohli scored 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85.
