Yamuna Water Project, which has been lying dormant for close to three decades now, is soon going to reach a significant landmark today, after signing a tripartite MoU on February 17, 2024 between the Union Ministry of Water Power and the governments of Rajasthan and Haryana. A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) shall be signed for initiating and implementing the project.

Today, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma is scheduled to depart for Delhi at 8:30 am from Jaipur. The MoA on Yamuna Water Project shall be signed at a function at Kartavya Bhawan-3, New Delhi at 11:30 am today. Following the agreement reached on the draft MoA in a high-level meeting held in Delhi last week, the agreement is now being finalized.

The function shall be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Union Home Secretary and other central and state government officials.

Under the Yamuna Water Project, Yamuna water will be delivered through underground pipelines to the Sikar, Churu, and Jhunjhunu districts of the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. This will not only provide relief from the drinking water crisis in the region but will also ensure adequate water for agricultural purposes.
