Today, the Delhi High Court will rule on the Congress's appeal against the Income Tax Department's reassessment of taxes for the years 2014 through 2017. The Income Tax Department has frozen the accounts of Congress and Youth Congress based on income tax returns for 2018–19, according to party spokesperson Ajay Maken during a press conference some time ago.
He had said that the Income Tax Department has also ordered a recovery of Rs 210 crore from these two accounts. He said that whatever amount raised through crowdfunding is in our account, it has been removed from our reach.
Maken had said that just two weeks before the announcement of elections, the account of the opposition party was frozen. This is like freezing democracy. Maken said that one month's salary has also been deposited in this account. We have also given the names of those donors to the Income Tax Department.
