Olympic Games 2024: Vinesh Phogat will not get any medal, CAS rejected the petition

The Court of Arbitration for Sports has dismissed the appeal moved by Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat. It was earlier stated that there were constant reports suggesting CAS had put the decision on hold until August 16. The wrestler had moved an appeal in the top tribunal against being disqualified from the final of the women's freestyle 50 kg at the Paris Olympics. The Indian Olympic Association has now told through a statement that this decision will be given on August 16 at 9.30 pm Indian time. On the night of August 14, CAS rejected Vinesh's petition, breaking all the hopes of the Indian wrestler.

Vinesh had challenged the Innsbruck decision to disqualify her from the 50kg gold medal match and knocked on the CAS door, demanding a shared silver medal at the Paris Olympics. Vinesh filed an appeal against this and demanded that she be given a joint silver medal. Vinesh fought a legal battle for 8 days for the silver medal outside the ring, but she had to face defeat here. Vinesh is still in Paris. But she shifted out of the Olympic Village. Currently, she is staying in a hotel. Vinesh will come back on August 17 to India.

The Court of Arbitration for Sports has rejected India's female wrestler Vinesh Phogat's appeal over her disqualification at the Paris Olympics. It is a case that Vinesh's case stands out to drive home the message of the requirement of what is fair and reasonable. However, IOA President PT Usha said she was surprised and disappointed with CAS's decision to reject Phogat's application against United World Wrestling and the International Olympic Committee.

In its statement, it said, "The IOA strongly believes that disqualifying an athlete completely for such a weight violation on the second day of two days is a matter of intense investigation. Our legal representatives have appropriately put this matter before the sole arbitrator." The IOA said that the minor difference of 100 grams and its result not only has a profound impact on Vinesh's career, but it also raises serious questions about these rules and their interpretation.
