The Indian Navy has sent its cruiser INS Teg and a surveillance plane P-8I to assist an oil tanker that capsized off the coast of Oman. The Indian Navy, in coordination with the Oman Navy, is performing maritime rescue and relief operations. Sixteen members of the oil tanker crew are missing, 13 of them are Indian. The Indian warship was patrolling in the same area where the oil tanker capsized. The Indian warship was then directed to start search and rescue efforts on July 15. On the morning of July 16, the navy noticed the overturned oil tanker.

According to the Maritime Security Center, the ship that overturned in the sea has been identified as Prestige Falcon. The ship was going from Dubai's Hamriya port to Yemen's Aden port. This Comoros-flagged ship overturned in the sea about 46 km southeast of Ras Madrakah area on the coast of Oman. Its 16-member crew includes 13 Indians and three Sri Lankan citizens. All crew members are missing. The ship is still overturned in the sea. Information on whether oil has leaked from the ship or not has not been revealed yet.

Since the start of the Israel-Hamas war, there have been continuous attacks on ships in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. These attacks are being carried out by Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Due to this, the US and Britain have jointly taken action against the Houthi rebels, but despite this, attacks on merchant ships are not stopping. The international shipping route has been badly affected due to the attack by the Houthi rebels and due to this many merchant ships are taking a long route via Africa. This has led to an increase in inflation and if the attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden do not stop, the situation may become worse.
