Southwest Monsoon reached West Bengal on Friday, six days before the scheduled time. Giving information, the Meteorological Department said that the monsoon has engulfed many parts of this region.
Meteorological department officials said that the reason for the early arrival of monsoon in the state could be the Ramal cyclone. Due to the strong winds of the cyclone, the monsoon reached the coast of the Bay of Bengal early. Therefore, the monsoon has reached the southern region of West Bengal.
The sub-Himalayan West Bengal districts of Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Kalimpong, and Darjeeling could see significant rainfall during the course of the next five days, according to the Meteorological Department's estimation. Jalpaiguri (43 mm), Cooch Behar (28 mm), and Alipurduar (45 mm) were the regions in North Bengal that saw the most rainfall on Friday.
Over the next three days, the weather service has forecast thunderstorms and strong storms. The impact will also extend to other South Bengal districts, such as Kolkata.
Many districts saw a decrease in temperature on Friday as the monsoon arrived in West Bengal. The temperature in Kolkata reached 23.7 degrees Celsius, 30 degrees before the monsoon arrived, as a result of the 65 mm of rain that was recorded there.
