Mohammed Shami Likely to Return as India Names ODI Squad Against New Zealand

The tour of New Zealand in India is scheduled to take place from January 11th. A total of three ODIs and five T20s will take place between the Indian and New Zealand teams. The Indian squad for the T20s has already been named. This is the same squad that will be appearing in the World Cup. The Indian squad for the ODI matches will be named today, January 3rd. Three major selections are expected in this squad. Rumors are rife that Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami will make his comeback. The second wicketkeeper-batsman, however, is yet to be selected.

The greatest surprise in the Indian ODI squad selection could be the return of fast bowler Mohammed Shami. Mohammed Shami has not been in the Indian squad since the Champions Trophy. However, with his impressive performances in domestic cricket, Shami has once again staked his claim for a place in the team. In addition to Shami, wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan's return to ODI cricket is also considered almost certain. He could be included in the squad in place of Rishabh Pant. Kishan has recently earned a place in the team with his explosive batting in domestic cricket. Kishan has also scored a double century in ODIs.

Captain Shubman Gill, who was ruled out of the last ODI series due to injury, is returning to the team. He is ready to lead the team once again. Dhruv Jurel may have to vacate his place. Meanwhile, Tilak Varma may also be sidelined. Furthermore, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya have been rested for this series.
