Mercedes-Benz joins hands with Google: Now Google Maps and YouTube in Mercedes cars will compete with Tesla and BYD
Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz on Thursday (February 23) announced a long-term strategic partnership with Google to improve its navigation experience. The company has said in a statement that this partnership will help Mercedes-Benz create a driving experience that combines information from Google Maps with the luxury car.
With this partnership, Mercedes-Benz will also provide its customers with innovative new features such as location details provided by Google. The companies have agreed to further collaboration using Google Cloud's artificial intelligence (AI), data and open infrastructure solutions.
The partnership will also bring the YouTube app to the Mercedes-Benz infotainment system. In addition, Mercedes-Benz will use Google Maps data to enable assistive driving features such as automatic speed adjustments before intersections, roundabouts or curves.
Ola Kallenius, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), of Mercedes-Benz, said, “With our strategic partnership, we are very excited to create unique services and raise the level of convenience for our customers. It will be integrated within our signature Mercedes-Benz user interface and fully integrated with state-of-charge relevant vehicle functions.
Talking about this partnership with Mercedes-Benz, Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said, 'Our partnership with Mercedes-Benz will be helpful in creating new experiences for drivers. Drivers will also get advanced technology like Google Maps Platform, Cloud and YouTube.
Sundar Pichai further said, 'Apart from this, we will also give our AI and data capabilities to the company to enable Mercedes-Benz to design a customized navigation interface. So that the sustainability efforts of the company can be accelerated. Apart from this, the company will also be helped to advance its autonomous driving system and create a better customer experience.
This partnership will help Mercedes-Benz compete with other Chinese players like Elon Musk's Tesla and BYD. Meanwhile, other carmakers such as General Motors, Renault, Nissan and Ford have also embedded a full package of Google services in their vehicles. Which includes many services like Google Maps and Google Assistant.
