Marriage ceremony without registration will be considered fake

Madras High Court has given a verdict regarding the marriage certificate. The High Court said that a marriage without a marriage ceremony would be considered void. That is if the marriage ceremony would not take place, then both the marriage registration and the certificate would not have any importance. They will be considered fake.
Justice R Vijayakumar said that it would be mandatory for the couple to undergo marriage ceremonies and rituals which are applicable to their religion. Only after this, according to the law, registration can be done under the Tamil Nadu Marriage Registration Act 2009.
Also said that the officials who will do the marriage registration will have to check whether the couple is married or not. Only then the registration will be considered correct.
The court was hearing a case in 2015. The petition was filed by a Muslim woman. The woman had alleged that her cousin had brought her from college on the pretext. After this, the woman was threatened that if she did not marry, he would kill her parents.
After the threat, the young man took the woman to the sub-registrar's office and got the marriage register signed. Regarding this matter, the woman had filed a petition in the court in 2015, after which the case has now been decided. The woman had claimed that no marriage ceremony was held between her and her cousin as per Islamic tradition.
