Mark Zuckerberg confirmed on Instagram that Meta is taking another step to make your content accessible to more people. He revealed that the AI-powered Reels translation feature on Instagram and Facebook, which was only available in English and Spanish when it launched in August, will now be available in more languages, including Hindi and Portuguese, allowing more creators and viewers to view content across language barriers.

In a video, Instagram's Adam Mosseri demonstrated how Meta's AI can translate and dub Reels in real time into different languages. Mosseri switched languages mid-stream, and his voice was seamlessly dubbed into Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese, making the translation sound completely natural. The AI dubbing tool recreates the creator's voice and tone and translates the speech into the chosen language. It also includes an optional lip sync feature that matches the creator's lip movements with the translated audio, making the viewing experience more realistic.

During the upload process, creators who are eligible to use Meta AI, typically those with a public account or more than 1,000 followers, see a translation option. Such users can select 'Translate your voice with Meta AI,' choose their target language, preview the result, and then publish the video.

To maintain transparency, Meta adds a 'Translated with Meta AI' label to each translated video. Users can revert to the original version if they wish – by selecting the three-dot menu > Audio and Language > Do not translate.

Meanwhile, Instagram has launched an interactive Map feature in India, allowing users to share and discover location-based posts, Reels, and Stories. This feature offers selective location sharing with friends, parental controls for teens, and improved privacy indicators. Users can also view nearby content on the Map for 24 hours, balancing real-time discovery and privacy.
