The Madras High Court has ordered former India captain MS Dhoni to deposit ₹10 lakh in the court. This order was given in the context of the spot-fixing scandal of 2013. Dhoni usually stays away from social media, but again, this issue has brought him into the spotlight. This issue goes back to the time when Dhoni was the captain of the Chennai Super Kings cricket team and there was a match-fixing scandal.
Dhoni, after realizing his name was being dragged into the spot-fixing scandal, approached the court and filed a defamation case for a whopping amount of ₹100 crore. In a debate held during a TV show, retired IPS officer Sampat Kumar stated that Dhoni was involved in the 2013 spot-fixing scandal. This led the former Indian captain to file a defamation case.
While filing the defamation case, Dhoni submitted several CDs as evidence. In these CDs, IPS officer Sampat Kumar was making allegations against Dhoni. However, the court will hire a translator and typist to translate the files, which will take a total of three months. The court has ordered Dhoni to deposit ₹10 lakh for this expense. The former Indian captain must deposit this amount before March 12th.
While hearing this case, which has been ongoing since 2014, Justice R.N. Manjula described it as very challenging. He stated that the CDs containing current debates and news clippings are in Hindi. In such a situation, it may take 3 to 4 months for the translator to translate and the typist to type. Dhoni will have to deposit ₹10 lakh for this expense.

Dhoni's popularity in India is well known, and keeping this in mind, the court has granted him exemption from appearing in person. The court has appointed an advocate commissioner to record Dhoni's statement. Furthermore, all documents must be translated before the trial of the case can begin, and the court has ordered Dhoni to bear the cost of this.
