The Indian Premier League's (IPL) 17th season might begin at the end of March. In actuality, April and May are the months when this tournament is held each year. However, this year's league can be played between March 22 and May 26, due to the Lok Sabha elections. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal provided this information.

Dhumal told the news agency 'PTI-Bhasha' that initially only the schedule of the first 15 days of this league will be announced. The schedule of the remaining matches will be announced after the announcement of the general election dates. Dhumal said, 'We are planning to start the tournament on March 22. We are working closely with government agencies. We will be the first to release the initial schedule. The entire tournament will be held in India.

This time, the Lok Sabha elections will be taken into consideration when creating the IPL schedule. Notably, this year's general elections are scheduled for March through May. The schedule will be created in such a scenario with the understanding that law and order issues should not arise and that security measures for the IPL games and elections should be balanced. The BCCI solely intends to host the league within India. There will be twelve cities where IPL matches are held this time.

This year's Indian Premier League will feature 70 league matches, four playoff matches, two qualifiers, an eliminator, and a final. Just five days after this two-month-long tournament, the T20 World Cup will be played in the West Indies and the Caribbean.

Earlier in 2009, IPL was played completely abroad. It was organized in South Africa due to the general elections that year. Whereas in 2014, due to the Lok Sabha elections, some matches were played in UAE. However, the tournament was held in India despite the general elections in 2019.
