IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti Awarded Padma Shri on Republic Day Eve
After IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti received the Padma Shri, the Kerala Congress slammed his cow urine research. Kamakoti had previously described cow urine as having antibacterial properties. Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu objected to the Congress's comments, defending Kamakoti and praising his contributions to deep tech.
On the eve of January 26th, the Padma Shri award was announced for IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti. V. Kamakoti has researched cow urine. After the announcement of the Padma Shri, the Kerala Congress taunted, "We will remember your research on cow urine."
Indeed, Professor Kamakoti, who researched cow urine, made some statements about cow urine in January 2025, which sparked a debate. He stated that cow urine has antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and digestive properties.
On the eve of Republic Day, the central government announced the Padma Awards. V. Kamakoti, director of the prestigious IIT Madras, received the Padma Shri. Upon receiving this honor, the Kerala Congress posted from its official Twitter account, "Congratulations to V. Kamakoti on receiving this honor. The nation recognizes your excellent research on cow urine at IIT Madras, which has brought cow urine to the world stage."
The Kerala Congress has once again been embroiled in controversy after Kamakoti's comment regarding "research on cow urine." Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu strongly objected to the Congress's comment. He wrote, "Professor Kamakoti works in deep tech. Microprocessor design. He is the director of IIT-Madras, one of India's best technological institutes."
