EV Charging Stations: The government has allocated a budget of ₹10,900 crore under the PM e-Drive scheme. The Ministry of Heavy Industries has designed charging point guidelines to allow operators to serve various models of electric vehicles (EVs) without any limitations.

The government has issued guidelines for establishing 72,300 public EV charging stations under the PM e-Drive scheme, aiming to increase coverage in cities and along highways. The scheme has a budget of ₹2,000 crore.
Additionally, the government has allocated a total budget of ₹10,900 crore for the PM e-Drive scheme. The Ministry of Heavy Industries has created charging point guidelines to enable operators to support various EV models without restrictions. These guidelines encompass safety protocols and real-time monitoring systems. The initial focus is on major highways, national corridors, and metropolitan areas, with plans to expand to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities later. Each charging station will be strategically placed to minimize range anxiety. Operators will receive financial assistance for establishing charging stations, with government offices, residential complexes, hospitals, and educational institutions qualifying for 100% subsidies. Locations such as airports, railway stations, retail outlets of state-owned oil marketing companies, metro stations, and bus depots will benefit from 80% subsidies on infrastructure and 70% on charging equipment.
The subsidy will be provided in two phases: 70% at procurement and 30% after the station is commissioned and integrated with the hub. Malls, markets, and other private venues can also apply for an 80% subsidy on infrastructure costs. Battery swapping and charging stations are eligible for an 80% subsidy as well.
