Gautam Gambhir Breaks Silence on Benching Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav in T20 Series

For the first two matches of the India-Australia T20 series, head coach Gautam Gambhir came under heavy criticism for benching Arshdeep Singh and giving Harshit Rana a chance. Now, Gambhir has spoken candidly about benching key players Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav in the playing eleven during the T20 series. In an interview video with the BCCI, Gambhir said that it is always challenging to balance team combinations and expectations while also ensuring that transparent communication is provided, especially when in-form players are benched from the playing eleven.

Gambhir's decision to rest India's leading T20 wicket-taker, Arshdeep Singh, for the first two matches to give Harshit Rana a chance was widely criticized. Arshdeep took three wickets in the third T20I, earning the Player of the Match award. He then returned with figures of 1 for 22 in the fourth. Acknowledging the difficulty of such decisions, Gambhir said that leaving out deserving players is one of the most difficult parts of his job.

Gambhir said, "As a coach, this is the most difficult thing for me. Sometimes, when I know there are so many good players on the bench, and I know everyone deserves to be part of the playing XI, you can only select 11, thinking about what the best combination is to work that day." He also emphasized the importance of open communication and honesty within the team.
