China Masters Badminton: PV Sindhu loses to Yeo Jia Min for the first time; Disappointing performance continues

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu suffered defeat in the second round of the China Masters badminton tournament. Sindhu gave a tough challenge to Singapore's Yeo Jia Min, but the Indian shuttler had to face defeat 21-16, 17-21, 23-21 in a match that lasted for one hour and nine minutes. This is Sindhu's first defeat in six matches against Jia Min. India's Anupama Upadhyay and Malvika Bansod also lost in one-sided matches in women's singles.

Anupama lost to Japan's Natsuki Nidaira 21-7, 21-14 while Malvika defeated eighth-seeded Thailand's Supanida Ketthong 21-9, 21-9. In another match, women's doubles pair Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand were defeated. Second-seeded Chinese pair Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning defeated Indians 21-16, 21-11 in 43 minutes.

The focus of the Indian challenge in singles now shifts on to Lakshya Sen, who will have to go up against Denmark's Rasmus Gemke in the second round of men's singles. At the same time, defending champion pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty too are scheduled to take on the men's doubles of Denmark comprising Rasmus Jaer and Frederik Sogaard in the pre-quarterfinals.
