Victoria Mboko won the Canadian Open women's singles championship. Victoria Mboko, an 18-year-old Canadian, defeated Japan's ace player Naomi Osaka to emerge as the champion. Victoria Mboko, who was a wild card entry, claimed the Canadian Open title by defeating four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. This home win was all the more special for Mboko.

Mboko staged a comeback by coming back from losing the first set and taking the championship by winning two sets. Mboko earned a career-high ranking with this victory. She moved to 25th in the WTA rankings. She will be seeded number one in the Grand Slam scheduled to be conducted in New York later this month.

Mboko has become the second Canadian woman player to win the Canadian Open after 2019. Bianca Andreescu won the title in 2019. Mboko's ranking was 85 before coming to the tournament. Her victory makes her the second-lowest-ranked player to win a Tier I 'WTA 1000' title since the introduction of this format in 1990.

She is the second player to win her first title in a 'WTA 1000 event' since 2009. Mboko is the second wildcard player to win the National Bank Open after Monica Seles in 1995. Mboko won the title defeating legends like Sofia Kenin, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Osaka. Gauff and Rybakina were seeded first and third respectively.

At the same time, Victoria Mboko is the first Canadian player to face four former women's singles Grand Slam champions and defeat all four in the same WTA event in the Open Era. Mboko is the second youngest player to defeat four Grand Slam champions in the same WTA event in the Open Era. The first player was Serena Williams in 1999.
