Bumrah Misses Opener, Sanju Samson Dropped as India Name Playing XI
Team India Playing 11 for USA Match: Sanju Samson has been dropped from the playing 11 in the very first match of the T20 World Cup 2026, and the team management has decided to have Ishan Kishan open the innings.
The third match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 is being played between India and the USA. The USA won the toss and elected to bowl. Jasprit Bumrah, who is a fast bowler, is not taking part in this match, which is being played at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. In addition, the team management has decided to include Ishan Kishan as an opener and leave out Sanju Samson.
After winning the toss, USA captain Monank Patel said, "We will bowl first. The pitch looks good. It's a high-scoring ground, so we will try to chase the target. The World Cup is one of the biggest stages for us. There are high expectations from the USA, so we will try to do well. We played a few warm-up games at the DY Patil Stadium, and we performed well. Our playing XI consists of six batsmen, two all-rounders, and three bowlers."
On the other hand, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav said, "We wanted to bat first. The wicket looks good, there's wind, so we don't expect dew. The atmosphere is good even before the game starts. I'm sure it will get even better. Washington Sundar and Sanju Samson are not in our playing XI. Unfortunately, Jasprit Bumrah is not well, so Mohammed Siraj is playing."
The Indian team, currently in Group A, will begin its campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026 with this match. Team India will then face Namibia on February 12th. A high-voltage match between India and Pakistan is scheduled for February 15th, but it remains a mystery for now. Team India will then face the Netherlands on February 18th. The only T20 match between the two countries was played in the T20 World Cup 2024, in which India won in 18.2 overs after restricting the USA to 110/8.
