Hair is primarily made of a protein called keratin, and this protein plays a vital role in maintaining hair strength, structure, and overall health. Weakened, dull, and broken hair due to heating and excessive usage of chemicals can be made healthier with the inclusion of protein in your diet. But if your hair is dehydrated and damaged too, then incorporating proteins from your diet, external hair products and simpler home remedies would work wonders for your tresses.

Protein-based therapies would be particularly good for some types of hair. These would include thin hair, processed hair, curly hair, and hair that may have some weaknesses and split ends. If you want your hair treated at home instead of going to a salon, then there are some hair products that you can use. These would include shampoos, conditioners, and masks with ingredients like keratin, Wheat Protein, Soy Protein, Silk Protein, and Rice Protein. These ingredients help repair damage, strengthen strands, and improve overall hair resilience.

Natural remedies can also provide excellent protein nourishment. Several effective masks can be prepared easily using ingredients already available in most homes. One option is the egg-yogurt mask: egg whites are rich in protein, especially keratin, which helps strengthen and soften hair. Simply whisk egg whites with yogurt, apply the mixture to your scalp, and leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing and following up with shampoo and conditioner.

Another effective remedy is the yogurt–honey mask. Mix three to four tablespoons of yogurt with one tablespoon of honey, adjusting the quantity based on your hair length. Apply it from the mid-lengths to the ends of your hair, leave it for 15–20 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water and finish with conditioner.

For dry, lifeless hair, a coconut milk mask works exceptionally well. Coconut milk is rich in fatty acids and provides deep nourishment while helping replenish protein levels and reduce dandruff. Warm three to four tablespoons of coconut milk, massage it into your scalp, and wrap your hair in a towel overnight. Wash it the next morning with shampoo and conditioner. Using coconut milk twice a week can lead to noticeably healthier and more hydrated hair.
