Auckland 21 March (Correspondent) Australia women defeated New Zealand by eight wickets with 39 balls to spare in the first T20 on Friday on the back of half-century scores by Beth Mooney (75) and Georgia Voll (50 not out). Australia has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series with this.

The target of 138 was being chased by Australia openers Georgia Voll and Beth Mooney and they played aggressively and shared a partnership of 123 for the first wicket. This was ended by Lee Tahuhu by dismissing Beth Mooney in the 11th over. Beth Mooney made a half-century innings of (75) runs in 42 balls with 10 fours and a six.

After this, in the 13th over, Lee Tahuhu dismissed Phoebe Litchfield (two) and sent her to the pavilion. The Australian batsmen scored (138) runs for the loss of two wickets in 13.3 overs and won the match by eight wickets. Georgia Voll scored (50 not out) runs in 31 balls with nine fours. Ellyse Perry remained unbeaten after scoring (three runs). Lee Tahuhu dismissed two batsmen from New Zealand's side.

Earlier today, New Zealand's women's team won the toss and decided to bat first. New Zealand did not have a good start while batting and lost the wickets of both their openers by 47 runs. India lost the wickets of captain Suzie Bates (14) and Georgia Plimer (27).

After this, Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine took charge. Both the batsmen played cautiously and scored runs at a fast pace. Amelia Kerr scored (51 not-out) runs in 46 balls with the help of five fours. Sophie Devine scored (39 not-out) runs in 36 balls with the help of five fours. The New Zealand team scored 137 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Darcy Brown and Tahlia McGrath dismissed one batsman each from Australia's side.
