Bangladesh T20I team against Sri Lanka announced, former captain did not get a place

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has on Friday released a 16-player squad for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka beginning July 10. Surprisingly, the erstwhile captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto has been omitted from the team. Liton Das has been made the captain.

Shanto, who vacated the T20 captaincy in the early part of this year, was included in the team for the recent United Arab Emirates and Pakistan tours. But he played only a solitary game against the UAE and did not feature in the Pakistan series. The left-handed batsman has been out of form in the shortest of the three formats of the game in the recent past. Maybe this is the reason why he has been dropped from the team.

Opener Naeem Sheikh has been included in the team after consistent good performances in domestic cricket. Fast bowler Mohammad Saifuddin has also returned to the team. Fast bowlers Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud, and Khalid Ahmed have also been dropped from the team.

Taskin Ahmed, who was out of recent tours due to injury, has been recalled to the team. Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed has been preferred over Tanvir Islam, who was included in the squad for the series against Pakistan in May.

Liton Das will lead this team. The team also includes all-rounders Mehdi Hasan Miraz and Shak Mahedi Hasan, as well as regular players Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, and Tanjim Hasan Sakib. The T20 series will start on July 10 in Kandy, with the second match on July 13 in Dambulla. The final match will be played on July 16 in Colombo.
