Arindam Bagchi appointed as India's permanent representative in UN, will replace Indra Mani Pandey in Geneva

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi was on Monday appointed India's permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva. He is a 1995 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). He took over as the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs in March 2020.

He handled many important issues and developments well, including the Eastern Ladakh border dispute, India's COVID-19, India's G-20 chairmanship. He will replace Indra Mani Pandey in Geneva. Arindam Bagchi, currently Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, has been appointed as the next Ambassador (Permanent Representative) of India to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. It is expected that he will take charge soon.

It is understood that Joint Secretary (G-20) Nagaraj Naidu is in consideration for the post of External Affairs Ministry spokesperson in Kakanur and India's High Commissioner to Mauritius K. The names of about four senior diplomats, including Nandini Singla, are being considered.
