Pakistan cricket team's regular captain Babar Azam has resigned from the captaincy after the team's disappointing performance in the World Cup 2023. After this Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed two different captains. PCB has given the command of the T20 format to star fast bowler Shaheen Afridi. Whereas, batsman Shan Masood will take the reins of the Pakistan Test team.

34-year-old Shan Masood has scored 1,597 runs in 30 Test matches, which includes four centuries and seven half-centuries. Shan has been appointed captain until the end of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25. Shan will lead the Pakistan team for the three-match Test series against Australia starting on December 14.

Meanwhile, left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah will lead the Pakistan team in the T20 format and will take command for the five-match T20 series starting in New Zealand from January 12. 23-year-old Shaheen has taken 64 wickets in 52 T20s. Shaheen has also captained Lahore Qalandars in the HBL PSL. According to the information received, Pakistan's captain will be announced soon in the ODI format.

It is noteworthy that after Babar's resignation, PCB issued a statement saying that he was given the option to continue as Test captain but he rejected the offer. "Babar has decided to step down as captain after consulting his family. The PCB respects his decision and will continue to support him as a player," the PCB said. PCP chief Zaka Ashraf said, "Babar is truly a world-class player and we want him to continue to grow as a player."
