Belgium former PM Yves Leterme: Former prime minister of Belgium, Yves Leterme, has argued in favour of India's permanent membership in the UNSC. Leterme contended that to be relevant in the twenty-first century, the UN Security Council must evolve beyond the frameworks of the previous century.
Former Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme has been a strong supporter of India's permanent inclusion in the UNSC. Leterme asserted that by doing this, the council's credibility would be further enhanced.
Leterme contends that in order for representation within the UN Security Council (UNSC) to go beyond twentieth-century frameworks, the body must adapt to the realities of the twenty-first century.
Leterme also praised PM Modi, noting that throughout his tenure, India has gained several advantages and that he has worked to strengthen India's geopolitical position.
Leterme welcomed the recently launched connectivity endeavour, the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), in an interview with PTI. He said it may help China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
