In the IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Abhishek Sharma displayed his talent by amassing 484 runs at a strike rate of 204.22 in 16 innings. Rajkumar Sharma, Abhishek's childhood coach, and his father discussed in an exclusive interview with IANS how players like Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh impacted this young player's career.
Rajkumar said, 'I like that world-class players like Yuvraj Singh train the youth. Yuvi has had a huge influence on his career. He worked hard and trained him day and night.'
He said, "He considers Yuvraj as his idol and says that I will bat like Yuvi Paaji. He watches their videos and once they start training together, Yuvi himself said I feel like I am batting myself and then he and his whole team train him. Yuvi himself stands and watches him bat.”
The left-handed opener displayed a brilliant batting performance in the 2024 season of the IPL. He scored at a tremendous strike rate of 204.22 during the season and made stormy opening partnerships with Travis Head. Rajkumar further explained how talented his son is, due to which he got a chance to meet some of the big names of cricket who helped him shine on the big stage.
He said, “I used to bring good bowlers for him and he used to hit them for sixes and send the ball across the stadium. Everyone was stunned to see that a child hit such long sixes. I used to tell everyone how talented he is. When he grew up a little, he went to professional coaches and top players and I thanked them for this result. He met Yuvraj Singh, Rahul Dravid, and Brian Lara and started traveling the country and playing well.
