On December 23, 3-year-old Chetna fell into a 700 feet deep borewell in Kiratpura of Kotputli district of Rajasthan. She was finally taken out on the 10th day on Wednesday evening, but her life could not be saved. After being taken out of the borewell, the girl was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
While playing with her sister, the girl fell into an open borewell dug outside the house. More than five attempts to rescue her proved unsuccessful. After this, a pit was dug parallel to the borewell and a tunnel was made till the borewell. When the tunnel did not reach the pit on Tuesday, it was found that it was being dug in the wrong direction.
Collector Kalpana Agarwal said that the borewell was tilted downwards. The borewell was located with the help of experts from Delhi and Jaipur Metro. Initially, the estimate was eight feet, later the tunnel had to be made 10 feet. However, questions are being raised about the rescue team going astray, that how did the direction of the tunnel go wrong? Let us tell you that a camera was installed in the borewell to keep an eye on the girl, in which no movement of her was visible for the last eight days.
The girl was admitted to BDM Hospital in Kotputli through an ambulance. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal kept a close watch on the whole situation. Meanwhile, the road which leads to the hospital was utterly cleaned. BDM Hospital medical staff remained on high alert. But unfortunately, the girl could not be saved.
On the other hand, the locals had questions from the planning to the execution of the rescue operation. They raised concern over the delay in taking the girl out. Officials say, there had been no negligence on the issue. Every possible effort was put to save the girl. Chetna's grandfather, Dayaram praised efforts by the administration and rescue team. He appealed to the officials to cover the opened borewell.
