Starlink India Website Goes Live Briefly; Company Says Prices Were ‘Placeholder Data’
Before the launch of Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet service in India, its website went live, showing the prices of plans and hardware kits. However, the company immediately clarified that all these prices were fake and had inadvertently gone live due to a technical glitch. Starlink stated that it has not yet launched any service in India nor is it taking any orders. The real plans will be released only after receiving government approval.
Elon Musk's satellite internet service, Starlink, will launch in India soon. Ahead of its service launch in India, the company has made its India website live. Following the launch of the website, the various internet plans, hardware kit prices, and some of its features came out in the open. This caused quite a stir on social media, but soon after, the company posted a post that upset many users.
In fact, in a post on X, the company said that all these prices were fake and had inadvertently gone live due to a technical glitch. On social media, Lauren Dreyer, VP of Business Operations at Starlink, also said that Starlink has not launched any services in India yet, nor is it accepting orders.
She also stated that the information displayed on the website was "placeholder data" and not the actual prices in India. The error was quickly fixed, but the brief price changes have sparked debate about pricing and availability.
For a short time after the website went live, a residential plan was shown on the site, priced at ₹8,600 per month, and a hardware kit for ₹34,000. The kit included a Starlink dish, Wi-Fi router, mounting equipment, and cables. The plan also promised unlimited data, 99.9% uptime, and stable connectivity even in changing weather.

Not only this, it also hinted at location-based pricing, which is now being speculated that Starlink was testing city-wise plans behind the scenes. Business plans were also shown here, but full details were not revealed.
Meanwhile, Dreyer clarified that this data is not real, which again raised the question of when Starlink will launch in India. The company has been preparing for months, but the launch is currently stuck on final government approval. India is still listed as 'pending regulatory approval' in Starlink's availability map. The company says that actual plans will be released only after approval.
