SL vs AUS: Smith and Carey score centuries, Australia takes a 73-run lead

Thanks to centuries of 139 not out and 120 not out by brilliant centuries of captain Steve Smith and Alex Carey, respectively, Australia accumulated 330 for three wickets over Sri Lanka on Friday, the second day of the second Test, and took a 73-run lead in the match.

Sri Lanka started playing from yesterday's score of 229 for nine wickets. In today's morning session, Mathew Kunman ended Sri Lanka's innings by dismissing Lahiru Kumara. Lahiru Kumara scored just two runs in 26 balls. Sri Lanka's entire team was reduced to a score of 257 in 97.4 overs. Kusal Mendis (85) remained unbeaten. Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc, and Mathew Kunman took three wickets each for Australia. Travis Head dismissed one batsman.

After this, batting for Australia, they lacked a proper start and two wickets at a mere 37 runs. Travis Head (37) and Marnus Labuschagne (four) were out. Captain Steve Smith, batting afterward, played out the match with Usman Khawaja. There was a 54-run partnership for the third wicket between both batsmen.

This partnership was broken by Nishan Peiris, dismissing Usman Khawaja (36). Alex Carey, who batted at such a crisis time, partnered Steve Smith's innings. Both batsmen batted excellently and achieved their centuries. Steve Smith batted an innings of 120 runs (not out) with nine fours and one six in 239 balls. Alex Carey scored 13 fours and two sixes (not out) in 156 balls.
