A van caught fire near a petrol pump on Kota Road, the busiest area of Kekri city, on Friday night. Initially, a little smoke arose and within no time the fire became so fierce that the shopkeepers nearby, seeing this scene, left their shops in fear and ran away. The van was burnt to ashes in no time. The fire brigade reached the spot upon getting the information and extinguished the fire. On getting the information, the policemen also reached the spot and tried to control the traffic and the people.

According to Amar Ujala, this Maruti van belonged to Dashrath Vaishnav, a resident of village Kanaikala, who was bringing his van to show it to the mechanic. This van also had a gas kit. Since this van runs on both petrol and gas kits, he was testing it. For this, he was going to Kota Road to show it to the mechanic. While going to the mechanic, suddenly smoke came out of the van and then the fire broke out in no time. An attempt was made to extinguish it with the water camper available on the spot, but the fire kept increasing and became huge.
