Muhurat Trading 2025: NSE, BSE Change Timings for Auspicious Diwali Session

Stock exchanges BSE and NSE will organize a special Muhurat trading session on Tuesday, October 21st, to celebrate the festival of Diwali. The exchanges have made the announcement on Monday.

This year, the Muhurat trading timings have been adjusted. Stock exchanges in separate releases announced that the symbolic trading session would be conducted between 1:45 pm and 2:45 pm. The special Muhurat trading session last year was conducted from 6 pm to 7 pm.

The new session also heralds the onset of a new Samvat (Vikram Samvat 2082). The Hindu year commences with Diwali. According to belief, business during the 'muhurat' or favorable hour brings prosperity and wealth to stakeholders.

The market will be closed for regular trading on Diwali, but a special trading session will be open for one hour. The exchange announced that the pre-opening session will be from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm.

According to market analysts, Diwali is considered an auspicious occasion for starting new ventures, and many investors believe that participating in the muhurat trading session brings prosperity throughout the year.

However, due to the trading window being limited to just one hour, markets often witness significant fluctuations. Analysts say the significance of this session lies more in its symbolic value than in the immediate gains.

According to separate circulars issued by the stock exchanges, trading will take place in various segments such as equity, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives, equity futures and options, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) during the same time period.
