Jaguar Delays Launch of Its First Electric GT to 2026 After Cyber Attack Disruption

The British luxury car brand Jaguar has been working on its first electric four-door GT car for quite some time. It was first revealed as the Type 00 back in December 2024. Initially planned for a 2025 launch, the brand has now postponed its global debut to 2026. Let's explore the details.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) suffered a major cyber attack in August 2025, forcing the company's production facilities in Solihull, Halewood, and Wolverhampton to shut down. This also affected the company's IT systems and order processing. The incident cost the United Kingdom's economy approximately 1.9 billion euros (approximately Rs. 22,000 crores). This major attack left JLR with no choice but to push back its production and launch schedules. This is why Jaguar's first electric GT car will now launch in 2026, not next year.

Jaguar currently has no active model lineup, while Land Rover has consistently performed well with its SUV portfolio. Therefore, this four-door electric GT could prove to be a defining project for the brand's future. The luxury electric car segment has seen ups and downs in recent years, but enthusiasm for such vehicles remains strong among wealthy buyers. Jaguar could, if it chooses, introduce new ICE models alongside EVs in the future to strengthen its market presence.

According to reports, Jaguar's four-door electric GT will be launched first in North America in 2026, followed by Europe and other markets. If launched in India, it will compete with high-performance luxury electric cars like the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan.
