iPhone Users May Soon Switch WhatsApp Accounts Instantly as Multi-Account Testing Expands
WhatsApp is testing multi-account support on iOS, allowing users to use two different WhatsApp numbers on a single iPhone. Until now, this feature was limited to Android, or users had to use workarounds like WhatsApp Business. The new feature will keep each account's chat, notification, and privacy settings separate.
WhatsApp is testing multi-account support on iOS because the company is preparing to introduce a feature requested by users who want to access WhatsApp using multiple phone numbers on the same device. With the support for multiple accounts, iPhone users will be allowed to add two WhatsApp accounts on the same app and switch between them in an instant, a feature that was previously available only on Android or possible with workarounds, such as WhatsApp Business. Each account will have its own chat, notifications, and privacy settings, while switching won't require users to log out of any account.
This option is available to select testers who have installed WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.34.10.72 on their iPhones, according to feature tracker WABetaInfo. According to the report, a new Account List section has been added to the app's settings, where users can add up to two accounts- whether a new number, an old WhatsApp account, or a companion account linked via QR code. All data and privacy settings, including chat backups, remain separate for each profile.
According to the report, WhatsApp has also updated notifications. An alert will appear if a message arrives on an inactive account, and each notification will also indicate which account it originated from. Users can also switch accounts from the Account List or by pressing and holding or double-tapping the Settings tab. A small toast notification appears after the switch.
According to WABetaInfo, the multi-account feature also supports App Lock (Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode). If the switched account is locked, authentication will be required. Accounts can also be removed from the Settings menu and re-added later. WhatsApp remembers previously used phone numbers, making it easier to log in again.

Eventually, WhatsApp will offer iPhone users a more convenient way to manage personal and work numbers within a single app, while maintaining both convenience and security. Currently, this feature is limited to iOS beta testers, but a broader rollout is expected in an upcoming update.
It's worth noting that WhatsApp began testing multi-account support on Android in 2023, and the feature is now fully available there. Android users can add a second number directly to the app, without the need for app cloning, third-party tools, or a separate phone. This same feature will soon be available on iOS as well.
