Infosys layoffs: Criticism for removing 700 people from Mysore campus

As per the media reports, there is news of layoffs at the leading IT company Infosys. As per reports, Infosys has laid off about 700 employees and reinstated by campus recruitment in October 2024. The company is in the dock for resorting to such a measure. As per a report in The Economic Times, the labor rights body Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) condemned the company's move, stating it is "shocking and unethical". Nascent has also threatened to submit a formal complaint to the Ministry of Labor and Employment. Another report from Moneycontrol puts the number of laid-off employees at 400.

According to the report, Infosys said the layoffs were done following internal qualifying exams. These exams, held at the company's Mysuru campus, are mandatory for freshers to clear after basic training. As per reports, freshers who failed to meet the minimum requirements in their three attempts were handed ultimatum letters and asked to quit. However, employees allege that the syllabus and criteria of the exam were changed, making it harder for them to clear, ET reported.

Most of the affected employees are from the engineering batch of 2022. They had waited for over 2.5 years for their onboarding. Last year, over 1,000 engineering graduates were finally inducted as systems engineers (SEs) and digital SEs with annual salaries ranging between Rs 3.2 lakh and Rs 3.7 lakh.
