India’s Vice-Captain Shreyas Iyer Suffers Rib Fracture, Internal Bleeding in Sydney ODI

Shreyas Iyer, who suffered an injury while taking a catch during the India-Australia Sydney ODI, was hospitalized in Sydney on Monday with internal bleeding and a rib injury. He was put in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) because of the seriousness of the injury. According to the latest update on Tuesday, Shreyas is now safe. He has been shifted from the ICU to a ward. His condition is currently stable.

Indian ODI cricket team vice-captain Shreyas Iyer took a brilliant catch of Alex Carey running backwards from point during the third ODI against Australia. During this, he suffered a fracture to his left rib. He was taken to the hospital on Monday. Examination revealed that a part of the body just below the rib was torn, causing severe internal bleeding.

Those familiar with the developments said the situation could have been extremely serious. However, he was admitted to the ICU before that could occur. According to the latest report on Tuesday, Iyer is now safe and has been shifted from the ICU to a ward. It is believed that he will remain in the hospital for a few more days.

On Monday, the BCCI informed that the board is closely monitoring Shreyas' condition and providing updates to his family. The BCCI statement said that Shreyas Iyer suffered a fracture to his lower left rib while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. Scans revealed that he had suffered a spleen injury. He is undergoing treatment, his condition is stable, and he is recovering well.
