Recently, the earthquake that occurred in India's neighboring country Nepal caused a lot of damage there. In such a situation, the Indian government has once again announced to help Nepal while fulfilling its neighborly duty.

The Government of India has banned the export of non-Basmati white rice, but now the government has exempted India's indigenous company Patanjali from this export ban only once. The government has allowed Patanjali Ayurveda to export 20 metric tonnes of non-Basmati white rice as a donation for earthquake victims in Nepal.

The Government of India has imposed a ban on the export of non-Basmati white rice from July 20 to avoid any shortage in domestic rice supply. However, export is allowed to some countries to meet their food security needs and on request, depending on the permission given by the government.

Today DGFT issued a notification saying, "Patanjali Ayurveda Limited has been granted permission to donate 20 MT of non-Basmati white rice (semi-milled or fully milled rice, whether polished or No or bright) has been exempted once from the restriction for export."

According to a DGFT notification issued in October last month, the government had allowed the export of 10,34,800 tonnes of non-Basmati white rice to seven countries, including Nepal, Cameroon, and Malaysia.

Last month, the Indian government sent 95,000 tonnes to Nepal, Cameroon (1,90,000 tonnes), Cote d'Ivoire (1,42,000 tonnes), Guinea (1,42,000 tonnes), Malaysia (1,70,000 tonnes), Philippines (2, 95,000 tonnes) and Seychelles (800 tonnes) of rice.

Nepal was hit by an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 on November 6 in which 152 people lost their lives and more than 250 were injured. As soon as the earthquake struck, India was the first country to provide relief material to Nepal.
