Google gave Rs 1.7 lakh crore to Apple, know what the default search engine deal

Google's parent company Alphabet Inc. has paid heavily to become the default search engine in Apple's Safari browser. Bloomberg has said in one of its reports that Google has given Apple 20 billion dollars (about Rs 1.7 lakh crore) for this. This information has come to light through the documents submitted by Google in the court.

In America, a case is going on against Google for monopoly in search engines. There are allegations against Google that it has misused its position to establish a monopoly in the field of search engine and web advertising.

Google had informed the court earlier in November that it gives Apple a total of 36% of the money it makes from Safari searches. According to the company, it paid $20 billion.

Since 2002, the built-in search engine on Apple products, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other devices, has been Google. The search engine agreement required Apple and Google to keep this agreement a secret. Nonetheless, the fact that Google pays Apple billions of rupees annually to be the default search engine is well known.

In many countries, Apple devices come pre-installed with Google as their search engine. Users do, however, have access to Yahoo, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Ecosia as options.

After the implementation of the Digital Market Act in Europe, Apple was forced to make changes to the browser. iPhone users also get the option to choose the default browser. Along with this, Apple also gives some more features to users in America.

If Google loses this case then this deal between Apple and Google will end. Closing statements in this case are to be recorded on Thursday and Friday. It is possible that the court may give its decision on this matter at the end of 2024.
