From AI Chatbot to Social Hub: ChatGPT to Soon Enable User-to-User Messaging
Social Media: OpenAI is preparing to give its popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, a social media-like feel. The company is testing a new direct message (DM) feature, allowing users to chat with each other and create group discussions.
OpenAI is currently progressing to turn ChatGPT into a one-stop social app. OpenAI recently launched the Sora 2 video generation model, followed by launching a TikTok-like AI video app. Now, following suit, plans are in place to introduce social interaction on ChatGPT.
Earlier this month, OpenAI launched the Apps SDK, enabling developers to build their own custom AI apps within ChatGPT. The action is seen as a direct challenge to platforms such as the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
According to reports, OpenAI is working on introducing a direct message (DM) feature to ChatGPT. This will allow users to communicate with each other as if they were on a social media app. Information about this feature was shared by Tibor Blaho, Lead Engineer at AIPRM.com.
According to Blaho, ChatGPT users will be able to discuss ideas, plan projects, search, create images, and chat together through this feature. However, to maintain privacy, no user will have access to another's personal ChatGPT memory.

According to reports, OpenAI may also allow users to join group chats via invite links. However, it is currently unclear whether these chats will come with end-to-end encryption, as is the case with WhatsApp or Signal.
Notably, OpenAI has faced privacy challenges in the past. When the company added the "Share" feature in August, many users' private chats became public on Google Search. The company subsequently had to work with the search engine to remove the data.
