Former Reserve Bank of India governor Shaktikanta Das was on Saturday appointed as Principal Secretary-2 of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Retired Gujarat cadre IAS officer PK Mishra is already holding the post of the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary.

According to an official order, the tenure of retired Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer Das will be co-terminus with the Prime Minister's tenure or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The order said, "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Shaktikanta Das, IAS (Retd) as Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister. The appointment will be effective from the date he assumes charge. His appointment will co-terminus with the tenure of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier."
