Ferrari’s First Electric Car to Feature Real Motor Sound, Not Artificial Noise
EV Sound: While some car enthusiasts may not like this change, this luxury brand based in Maranello, Italy, is ensuring that its first electric car is perfect in every sense.
The luxury car brand based in Maranello, Italy, Ferrari, is almost ready with its first electric car. While some car enthusiasts may not like this change, Ferrari is ensuring that its first electric car is perfect in every sense. The point is that this car will not feature any fake engine sound. Instead, Ferrari has adopted a completely new and original approach.
The company has made it clear that it will not incorporate fake engine sounds into its electric grand tourer. Ferrari says that the sound heard will be completely "authentic," that is, the sound of a real motor, enhanced with technology.
This decision is significant because many major companies have tried to create a similar experience to older petrol engines by adding artificial engine sounds to electric vehicles. However, Ferrari will break this trend and use real motor vibrations as the sound.
Ferrari got the idea for this sound from an electric guitar. Just as music is created by amplifying the vibrations of the strings in a guitar, Ferrari will capture the vibrations of the drivetrain (i.e., the motor and gear system) in its electric car.

To achieve this, a high-precision sensor has been installed on the rear axle that will capture the motor's frequency (vibration) and amplify it so that the real motor sound can be heard outside and inside the cabin.
Ferrari says that this sound will not be merely for show, but will provide real feedback to the driver. As the car accelerates or brakes (regeneration), the sound will change accordingly. Even when the car shifts to rear-wheel drive mode, the driver will perceive this sound.
If Ferrari succeeds in this experiment, it could prove to be a new milestone for the automobile industry. The lack of engine sound has been a major challenge for electric cars so far. However, Ferrari's "guitar-inspired" technology is a major step toward giving EVs a new, authentic, and exciting sound experience.
