Govt Expands CBDC-Based Food Subsidy to More UTs, Targets Transparency and 5% Savings in PDS
The government will expand the Digital Food Subsidy Pilot Scheme to Chandigarh and other Union Territories by June. Under this system, beneficiaries receive subsidies directly into their digital wallets.

As part of the plans, the government intends to extend the food subsidy program using CBDCs from Gujarat and Puducherry to Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu by June.
According to this plan, eligible individuals receive subsidies in their digital wallets, where they are stored in token form and can use the tokens for purchasing food grains from ration shops.
The subsidy program is based on the use of an Aadhar-based biometric system along with digital wallets, enabling instant distribution of grains.
