Suryakumar Yadav named India T20I Captain, Shubman Gill named Indian vice-captain

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the transfer of the captaincy torch at the Indian camp on Thursday, with star hitter Suryakumar Yadav succeeding Rohit Sharma as new T20I captain. Rohit Sharma, fresh off leading India to victory in the T20 World Cup, will return to ODIs for the series against Sri Lanka, while Virat Kohli will also make a comeback in the fifty over format.
Suryakumar earlier captained the T20I team in an away series against South Africa, when Rohit Sharma was unavailable for selection due to a demanding ODI World Cup. Hardik Pandya, who was India's vice-captain during the T20 World Cup, is also chosen to the T20I squad. It had been reported widely that Hardik wasn't in captaincy plans due to fitness-related concerns.
Shubman Gill named Indian vice-captain
Shubman Gill was selected India's vice-captain in both the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka. With Gill at the helm, the second-string Indian team defeated Zimbabwe 4-1 in the five-match series. Gill's Zimbabwe series deputy, power-hitter Sanju Samson, has also been included to the Sri Lanka white-ball team, while Jasprit Bumrah, the team's main fast bowler, has been rested for the tour.
