SEBI Row: The Finance Minister has praised the financial sector regulators at a time when in the last few months, many allegations have been made against the stock market regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) and its chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch.
On Tuesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman applauded the financial sector regulators in India. The regulators associated with the financial sector have done outstanding work in India, says the Finance Minister during a program in Mumbai. She also added that the financial sector regulators have brought better transparency to the system.
The Finance Minister has praised the financial sector regulators at a time when, in the last few months, many accusations were made against the stock market regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) and its chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch. In the recent past, Hindenburg Research and the country's main opposition party Congress have accused the equity market regulator and its chief of many irregularities.
The Minister of Finance said that she is all for questioning and criticizing the regulators, but their contribution needs to be exercised with extreme caution.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also asked people to look at the facts emerging in the case related to the allegations against SEBI during the program.
