India's iron ore production increased by 7.4% to 116 million tonnes in April-August, government released figures
Iron Ore: According to data released by the Ministry of Mines, iron ore production increased by 7.4 percent to 116 million tonnes from April to August. 108 million tonnes were produced in the same period last fiscal.
In the current financial year, iron ore and manganese ore production increased during the April-August period. According to data released by the Ministry of Mines, during this period, iron ore production increased by 7.4 percent to 116 million tonnes - that is, 116 million tonnes. In the same period of the last fiscal, 108 million tonnes i.e., 108 million tonnes were produced.
The ministry in a statement said manganese ore production was up by 15.4% to 1.5 metric tonnes during the April-August period as against 1.3 metric tonnes in the previous fiscal. Iron ore accounts for nearly 70% of the total mineral production in terms of value.
In the non-ferrous metals category, primary aluminium output rose to 17.49 lakh tonnes in April-August from 17.26 lakh tonnes in the same period a year ago. During the said period, refined copper production increased by 5.8% to 2.02 LT from 1.91 LT," the ministry said.
India is the world's second-largest aluminium producer, one of the top 10 producers of refined copper and the world's fourth largest iron ore producer. The continued growth in iron ore production in the current fiscal reflects strong demand conditions in user industries, primarily steel. With the rise in aluminium and copper, these figures indicate continued strong economic activity in sectors like energy, infrastructure, construction, automotive and machinery, a government statement said.
