The interference of technology in the automotive industry is rising day by day. When connected car technology was initiated in India prior to COVID, people were not sure about using it. But as per an annual report by IS&P Global in 2025, Indian auto owners are now not only utilizing this technology on a large scale. But also motivating other individuals for the same.

According to this survey, India is at number two in terms of using connected car technology. In this case, Indian car owners have also left behind the United Kingdom, Europe, America and other Asian countries. China is at number one, but India is also very close to it.

S&P Global's report shows that 53 percent of car owners in China are using free trial connected service. While 32 percent are willing to take its paid version. At the same time, 46 percent people in India are using the free feature. And the interesting thing is that 33 percent people also want to take its subscription, which is slightly more than in China. After America, India is second where most people are ready to take the paid version of connected car technology, here this figure is 35 percent.

According to the 2025 report, there are 5 percent more people who do not want to subscribe to any connected car service as compared to 2024. Two major reasons have come to the fore behind this. First, its price or subscription model and second, the same features are already available in the smartphone app. The surprising thing is that one out of every five customers did not take the connected service because he was not aware of this technology.

The largest concern with connected car technology is data privacy. The sector still has a lot of work to be done on the issues of transparency and security of data. Customer driving data - i.e., location and driving behavior - can be abused in the hands of criminals. Thus, it is critical that the government and businesses implement tough data protection regulations.

Lack of complete information about connected car technology is also a reason for the lack of trust among customers. People often do not give priority to these features while buying a car. According to a report by S&P Global, the number of people paying for connected services has decreased from 86 percent in 2024 to only 68 percent in 2025. This shows that there is still a lack of awareness and trust among people.
