700 crore UDAX outstanding in Jaipur: Tax to be recovered from 1.33 lakh property owners in Heritage-Greater area

The last month of the financial year is going on and these days the collection of Urban Development Tax (UDATX) has started getting attached in Jaipur city. Targeting more than one lakh soft defaulters, the corporation officials have started a campaign for recovery from them. But looking at the records of Municipal Corporation Heritage and Greater, there are 1.33 lakh such private properties in Jaipur, from which tax of Rs 700 crore has to be collected.
Both the Municipal Corporations cite the deteriorating economic condition behind the lack of cleanliness and development work in Jaipur city. Both corporations have to depend on the government or JDA, PWD for the construction of roads in the city. Today, there is a team of more than two and a half thousand employees and officers in both municipal corporations, but this team is neither able to collect taxes nor get development works done in the city.
UDAX is also collected by the corporation always in the last two months of the financial year. Prior to this, for 10 months, the corporation's team does not make any special effort in tax collection. If we look at the condition of both municipal corporations, there are 30 properties on which tax of more than Rs 110 crore is outstanding. Although most of the properties in this are the government.
Talking about Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater, there are 19 such big properties of the private and government sectors, on which a tax of Rs 84.65 crore is outstanding. In this, Jaipur airport alone has tax arrears of 19.17 crores, for which a demand notice has also been issued by the Municipal Corporation in the past. Similarly, the tax of Sawai Mansingh Stadium itself is in arrears of more than Rs 7.38 crore.
Similarly, Municipal Corporation Heritage also has 11 such big properties, on which tax of more than Rs 29.92 crore is outstanding. Most of these properties are government owned. A tax of Rs 1.32 crore is pending on Sukhum Marriage Garden, Civil Lines itself. Similarly, the Maharaja Sawai Mansingh Museum Trust has to pay a tax of more than Rs 1.39 crore to the Municipal Corporation Heritage.
